GRAMMY nominated artist Rapsody knows where she came from. The North Carolina native's new album, Eve, is a celebration of the many artists who have inspired her and paved the way for her career personally and musically.
"To think of it, I'm small pieces of all these women that inspired me," she told us backstage at this weekend's 25th annual ESSENCE Festival in New Orleans, after naming influential Black women such as Nina Simone, Roberta Flack, Lauryn Hill, Phylicia Rashād, Missy Elliott, Aaliyah, Oprah and others as influences and inspirations.
"When I was growing up, I didn't know who Nina Simone was, I learned who she was for Lauryn Hill, so if I can do that for another little girl," she said, "it continues that legacy, and I think that's important. So that was the whole idea and concept around the album."
