Both bands began in the '80s with growing recognition in the '90s and fan followings that are still strong. In 1983 the Femmes released their self-titled debut album with its lead track "Blister In The Sun." Inspired by punk rock to express messages outside the mainstream, the album's combination of conflict, candidness and rebellion was a major contribution to the growth of alternative rock.

X released their classic first album, Los Angeles, in 1980, bringing their city's punk scene to greater national attention. Their tastes were eclectic and poetic, combining rockabilly and other influences into their own unique blend. The local scene had already hosted the Germs and embraced X's willingness to experiment beyond punk rock's usual boundaries.

Tickets for the joint tour go on sale on Feb. 22 and will be available on both the Violent Femmes and X's websites.
