The 2018 New Year Honors informed us Ringo Starr was to be elevated from a Member of the Order of the British Empire to full knighthood, following in the footsteps of former bandmate Paul McCartney. His investiture ceremony was held at Buckingham Palace on March 20.
It was announced in December 2017 that former Beatles drummer Starr, along with the Bee Gees' Barry Gibb would receive the honor in 2018, which brought congratulations from McCartney, who was knighted in 2004, and John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono.
"Dear Sir Ringo, I am very happy that you have received this honour from the Queen.," Ono tweeted. "It's about time! Huge congratulations! I am delighted for you and your family. It is an honour for everyone in the Beatles family and I love you very much."

In January, Starr greeted the news that his name was on the list by saying, "[It is] an honor and a pleasure to be considered and acknowledged for my music and my charity work, both of which I love. Peace and love."
