Influential alt-rock band R.E.M are sharing a previously unreleased song called "Fascinating" to benefit Hurricane Dorian relief and recovery efforts in the Bahamas.
"Fascinating" was to initially set to appear on 2001's Reveal, but was eventually cut from the album. Proceeds will go to Mercy Corps, a global non profit that aids countries affected by disasters.
The category 5 hurricane killed 50 people and damaged thousands of homes on Sept. 1, leaving 70,000 homeless, CNN reports. A preliminary report has estimated $7 billion in wreckage.
The song was recorded in the Bahamas in 2004 where the band stayed over two months for a creative retreat. The band has fond memories of their time there.
"I have been fortunate to spend many weeks working and playing in the Bahamas, making friends and lots of music there,” R.E.M. bassist/vocalist Mike Mills said. “It breaks my heart to see the damage wrought by Hurricane Dorian. Please help us and Mercy Corps do what we can to alleviate the suffering caused by this catastrophe."
Vocalist Michael Stipe posted a video to social media to thank those supporting. "Thank you for your support in helping us raise money so that Mercy Corp can extend the work that they're doing," he said.
The song can be streamed for free on Bandcamp and downloaded for a minimum of $2.
