For the fifth year in a row, Michael Jackson has topped Forbes' list of highest-paid dead celebrities, earning $75 million for the period between Oct. 15, 2016, through Oct. 15, 2017.
The King of Pop's legacy was bolstered this past year by a brand-new Halloween special, a new compilation album and a 3-D version of his iconic "Thriller" video, in addition to a successful Cirque du Soleil show in Las Vegas and revenue from his EMI Music publishing catalog.
Musicians totaled seven of the individuals placing on the 13-deep list. Coming in at No. 4 was Elvis Presley with $35 million on the strength of a new entertainment complex in Memphis, Tenn., and a new hotel, The Guesthouse at Graceland.
Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Bob Marley placed at No. 5 with $23 million, fueled by revenue from House of Marley audio products and the Marley Beverage Co.
Rounding out the list were GRAMMY winners Tom Petty (No. 6, $20 million), Prince (No. 7, $18 million), John Lennon (No. 9, $12 million), and David Bowie (No. 11, $9.5 million).
