DJ and producer Gryffin started building a fan base in 2014, by releasing feel-good dance remixes by artists like GRAMMY nominee Tove Lo and GRAMMY winners Maroon 5, but he didn't always plan on pursing music. Shortly before that, while still in college, he started making remixes of his favorite songs for fun and sharing them online, which caught the attention of record labels who wanted him to remix their artists' songs. Fast forward to 2018, and the young artist has turned a passion project into a career, with plenty of popular remixes under his belt as well as several original tracks, including his latest single, "Tie Me Down."
We sat down with Gryffin backstage at Austin City Limits Festival to learn more about the new single, his approach to making remixes and how he got his start. He shares that he feels a personal connection to the message in "Tie Me Down," which is about finding true love, and explains that it took about a year to find the right vocalist for the song. Once he worked with singer Elley Duhé and heard the passion behind her vocals, he knew the song was ready, and he is excited about the outcome.
"The song means a lot to me personally, it's just about wanting that love, an everlasting love, and that commitment from somebody," he shared with us. "It was a really emotional song and it was really fun to make."
