Everything We Know About Demi Lovato's New 2022 Album 'Holy Fvck'

As Demi Lovato prepares to return to rock with their eighth album, 'HOLY FVCK,' here's a rundown of all the details we know about the LP so far, including singles "Skin Of My Teeth" and "Substance" and the full tracklist.

GRAMMYs/Jun 8, 2022 - 09:49 pm

Updated Friday, July 15

By the looks of Demi Lovato's new album trailer, we're in for emotional turbulence.

The video opens in dramatic fashion, with an eerily pallid man switching on a camcorder. Then, we see flashes of the making of Lovato's new album, HOLY FVCK, from glimpses of Notes-app lyrics to snippets from the studio.

But then the pop-punk soundtrack (lead single "Skin of My Teeth," due June 10) falls away. At the end of the 30-second clip, we see the singer silently brooding in a tub, alone — the antithesis of creative rapport. It seems Demi fans may be in for both extremes of isolation and jubilance, and everything between — and Lovato wouldn't have it any other way.

On Aug. 19, the two-time GRAMMY nominee will drop HOLY FVCK on the world, thereby introducing the next era of their incisive and raw body of work. Here's everything could find about the album.

Lovato Called The Album "So Representative Of Me"

Before officially announcing the album on June 6, Lovato shared some insights in an Instagram story in April.

"Getting emotional listening to my new album because I'm so proud of it," they said. "It's my absolute best yet and so representative of me, where I started and who I am today."

Lovato Held An Impromptu Funeral For Their Pop Era

In January, the singer posted a photo sitting alongside members of their team, including their manager Scooter Braun and Island Records executives.

Flipping off the camera, Lovato dubbed the gathering “A funeral for my pop music” in their caption — ceremoniously finishing off their past era and thereby looking to a wide-open future.

(The photo is also now the first of only 32 posts on Lovato’s Instagram page, further putting their past behind them.)

Lovato Introduced HOLY FVCK With A Statement

In a public statement, Lovato outlined the rewarding journey of making HOLY FVCK.

"The process of making this album has been the most fulfilling yet, and I'm grateful to my fans and collaborators for being on this journey with me," they wrote. "Never have I been more sure of myself and my music, and this record speaks that for itself.

"To my Lovatics who have been rocking out with me since the beginning and those who are just now coming along for the ride, thank you," Lovato continued. "This record is for you."

"Skin Of My Teeth" Will Drop June 10

Prior to announcing the full album, Lovato revealed that the first single, titled “Skin Of My Teeth,” will arrive June 10.

They initially teased the track on TikTok with a devious selfie video that featured faux newspaper headlines like “Demi Leaves Rehab Again!” and “Freak Demi Lovato Screams Eat Me To Paparazzi.”

On the eve of the song’s release, Lovato will debut the song on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon."

The Album Features Pop-Punk Single “Substance”

On Friday, July 15, Lovato released the pop-punk-fueled HOLY FVCK single “Substance,” which features anti-drug sentiments (“Got high/It only left me lonely and loveless") in the song’s lyrics and rowdy music video.

The Album Features Collaborations With Pop-Punk & Rock Artists

In addition to all the singles already released, on Friday, July 15, Lovato dropped the full HOLY FVCK tracklist, which includes collaborations with fellow pop-punk and rock artists like Yungblud (“Freak”) and Dead Sara (“Help Me”), as well as indie pop singer/songwriter Royal & The Serpent (“Eat Me”).

There's A Song Called "Happy Ending" Dealing With Addiction

"Sure I'm sober now, and everybody's proud, but I miss my vices," the song goes — as heard in an Instagram story. “Am I going to die trying to find my happy ending?"

The Album Cover Features Latex And Bondage

Upon revealing the album trailer, Lovato also revealed the sexy-yet-sinful cover art — featuring a crucifix pillow, no less!

Lovato Has Scheduled Their First Tour In Four Years

The HOLY FVCK Tour will launch with its South American leg in late August with shows across Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, and Chile.

Then, it will pick up in North America at the Hard Rock Live Sacramento in Wheatland, California on Sept. 22 and hit 24 cities including San Francisco, Boston and Atlanta.

(Lovato will also play two state fair shows just before HOLY FVCK arrives: the Illinois State Fair on Aug. 13, and the Iowa State Fair on Aug. 14.)

The tour will feature support from DEAD SARA and Royal & the Serpent, and tickets go on sale on June 10 at 10 a.m. local time.

Yes, HOLY FVCK Will Be Uncompromising

Lovato posted a TikTok video teasing that HOLY FVCK is “rock n’ roll” — but more importantly, a rebirth. "I'm pissing people off by living my truth," they declared. "And I'm f*cking okay with it."

Music Saved My Life: Mental Health Awareness Month 2018

Recognize and celebrate the healing power of music for our mental health

GRAMMYs/Jun 1, 2018 - 01:30 am

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

Every year since 1949, the entire month has been reserved to raise awareness about the importance of managing mental health, shed light on the universal struggle of depression, anxiety and other aspects of mental well-being, and encourage people to reach out for help.

The Recording Academy recognizes the healing power of music and how the indescribable feelings of the right song at the right time can be both a sonic salve and an emotive line of communication that tells a listener, "No, you truly are not alone."

Throughout May, we will share important quotes and stories from artists who have made the choice to speak publicly about how their mental health has directly affected their lives, and how the healing power of music has helped them on their path toward a more peaceful, present and mindful life.

Check back daily for inspirational messages from your favorite artists, and each week for more expansive stories about how musicians have addressed their mental health. You'll learn how some of your favorite artists have benefitted from the healing power of music in their own lives, which we hope will serve as inspiration in yours.

Watch Demi Lovato Sing The National Anthem At Super Bowl 2020

Following a touching performance at the 62nd GRAMMY Awards last month, the two-time GRAMMY nominee delivered a powerful rendition of the U.S. national anthem at the big game

GRAMMYs/Feb 3, 2020 - 04:56 am

Two-time GRAMMY nominee Demi Lovato is known for pouring her heart and soul into each of her songs and live shows, and her performance of the U.S. national anthem at Super Bowl 2020 today (Sunday, Feb. 2) was no different.

Dressed in a stunning, all-white suit, Lovato took on the highly coveted slot with confidence, tackling the song's high notes and powerful vocal melodies with poise and aplomb. Lovato now joins previous GRAMMY winners like Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera and Carrie Underwood among the artists who have performed "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the big game.

In what may seem like a cosmic coincidence, Lovato, who was announced as a guest singer for the big game last month, actually predicted she would one day "sing the national anthem at a Super Bowl" in a tweet she posted on Feb. 7, 2010, nearly 10 years to the day when she finally accomplished that same feat.

The Super Bowl show is the latest major performance for Lovato this year. Last month, she made her grand return to the stage when she delivered a touching performance of her new song, “Anyone,” at the 62nd GRAMMY Awards. Her rendition, her first televised performance following a drug-related medical emergency in 2018, quickly became one of the most unforgettable moments from this year's GRAMMYs.

Other musical highlights from Super Bowl 2020 included a dazzling, star-studded halftime show from Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, which featured surprise performances from Bad Bunny and J Balvin, plus a beautiful rendition of "America the Beautiful" from four-time GRAMMY-winning gospel icon Yolanda Adams.
