In a recent interview, Carrie Underwood revealed she will bring along Maddie & Tae and Runaway June as supporting acts on her Cry Pretty Tour that kicks off in May 2019. Why? Because they've earned it, according to the GRAMMY-winning artist.

"I’m not throwing anybody a bone by taking them out on tour with me,” Underwood said. “They deserve to be there and they’re gonna put on a really great show."

The tour is in support of her latest album – the first she's ever co-produced – titled Cry Pretty, out on Sept.14.

"I’m already proud of all that [Maddie & Tae and Runaway June have] done," she continued. "I’m a fan. It’s good when women support women. I think we’ve done more than that. One of the good things that has come out of these conversations has been the rallying that we’ve had for each other, behind each other. We all need more of that in our lives.”

Elaina Smith, host of Nash Country Daily's "Women Want To Hear Women" podcast, also asked Underwood what can be done about the lack of female representation in the industry. Underwood spoke out against the notion that the female audience only likes to listen to male country artists on the radio. "I feel like, shutting that door," she said. She mentioned that she felt female representation lacked on the radio when she was growing up. It's gotten worse since then, she told Smith. 

To her point, a 2017 report by the Tennessean concluded that the percentage of female-only country songs on the radio has dropped since 2016.
