BTS Channel The Beatles’ 1964 Ed Sullivan Moment For Colbert Performance

Over 50 years after the fab four landed in the U.S., another international phenomenon takes over on late night T.V. - watch how it unfolded

Last night on CBS' The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, history was made... again. Superstar Korean-pop seven-piece BTS appeared on the show dressed in the same threads - and performed on the same stage - as the Beatles did for their historic 1964 appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show, ushering in the British Invasion that shaped the 1960s and beyond.

Today, BTS whip up a similar hue of hysteria, a phenomenon Colbert coins "BTS-mania" in the image of the Beatlemania that swept the nation five and a half decades ago. During BTS' appearance on the show, which was shot in classic black-and-white, fans dressed in '60s mod while screaming and holding signs, and Colbert slicked back his hair and did his best Sullivan impression. The K-pop outfit even broke into a verse of "Hey Jude" during the interview and delivered a well-choreographed rendition of their lsingle "Boy With Luv" from their latest album, Map Of The Soul: Persona, which dropped last month.

Kitschy history aside, BTS' arrival in the U.S. has been headline news over the past year, complete with record-breaking sales, streams, and more. They are currently on the North American leg of their Love Yourself: Speak Yourself world tour. Their next stop is Saturday night in East Rutherford, N.J., at the MetLife Stadium.
