• Born Selena Quintanilla April 16, 1971, in Lake Jackson, Texas. Died March 31, 1995, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
   
• Selena's fourth studio album, the GRAMMY-nominated Amor Prohibido, reached No. 29 on the Billboard 200, ultimately attaining double-platinum status. The LP featured the Billboard Hot Latin Songs No. 1 hits "Amor Prohibido," "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom," "No Me Queda Más," and "Fotos Y Recuerdos."
   
• In 1995, following her death, Selena's posthumous English-language crossover album, Dreaming Of You, topped the Billboard 200. It featured the Billboard Hot 100 hits "I Could Fall In Love" (No. 8) and "Dreaming Of You" (No. 22).
   
• Selena won her first career GRAMMY for Best Mexican-American Album for Live at the 36th GRAMMY Awards in 1994, marking the first time a female Tejano artist won the category.
   
• Did you know? In her breakthrough film role, Jennifer Lopez played Selena in the popular 1997 eponymous biopic. To prepare for the part, Lopez actually moved in with Selena's sister Suzette Quintanilla in Corpus Christi, Texas.
   
• Established in 1995, the Selena Foundation is dedicated to helping children "complete their education, to live moral lives, to love their families, to respect human life and to sing whatever song they were born to sing."
