After a breakthrough year in 2003 thanks to their album Elephant, The White Stripes had a major night at the 2004 GRAMMYs. Along with earning their first golden gramophone — for Best Alternative Music Album for Elephant — they were part of the telecast's star-studded performer lineup, delivering a roaring rendition of "Seven Nation Army." Before the show, Jack White couldn't help but celebrate the importance of the GRAMMY Awards on the red carpet.
"They highlight all different types of music," White said, emphasizing the significance of moments like American Delta blues legend Charley Patton's box set winning a GRAMMY the year prior. "All across the board everybody gets involved. I think that's wonderful." For more episodes of Red Carpet Flashback, visit GRAMMY.com/videos.
