Mexican singer/songwriter Sofía Reyes shines a light on her newest musical companion, the handpan. She first discovered the instrument after hearing handpan master Malte Marten, whose songs she often uses to meditate. Moved by his sound, she took his online course and eventually found her own handpan at a shop in Los Angeles.
For Reyes, playing the handpan is less about perfection and more about presence. She describes it as an intuitive, healing instrument that helps her slow down and reconnect. Sometimes it even sparks song ideas, but mostly, the handpan offers her a chance to breathe and create freely: "It's such a relaxing moment for me," she says.
