Kanye West made an unforgettable first impression at the 2005 GRAMMYs, delivering a theatrical performance of his hit "Jesus Walks." As the chart-topping rapper/producer revealed backstage after the show, he drew inspiration from Beyoncé's 2004 performance of "Dangerously In Love" — and ultimately aimed to leave viewers in awe.

"I wanted something that gave you a real, nostalgic feel… old down south church… and brought the song to a new level visually," he explained. "Just some over-the-top good TV, you know?" That night, West took home his first three GRAMMYs (Best Rap Album for The College Dropout, Best Rap Song for "Jesus Walks," and Best R&B Song for co-writing Alicia Keys' "You Don't Know My Name"); he has since won 24 GRAMMYs and received 76 nominations.
