At the 2009 GRAMMYs, Jennifer Hudson earned her first-ever GRAMMY win, taking home Best R&B Album for her self-titled debut. Presented by none other than Whitney Houston, the moment was made even more unforgettable for the powerhouse vocalist. "I don't really know what to say. First of all, I got Whitney Houston presenting me, wow, I'm just in awe right now," Hudson said from the stage, visibly moved. She went on to thank God, her family — both in Heaven and on Earth — and her team.

Hudson was also nominated that night for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance ("Spotlight") and Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals ("I'm His Only Woman"). As of the 2025 GRAMMYs, she has won two GRAMMYs and received eight nominations, taking home her second golden gramophone in 2017 for The Color Purple, which won Best Musical Theater Album.
