At the 1991 GRAMMYs, John Lennon was posthumously honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for, as emcee Richard Gere put it, "redefining the subject matter and musical content of popular music." Just after Tracy Chapman delivered a stirring rendition of Lennon's solo classic "Imagine," Aerosmith paid homage with a dynamic version of the Beatles' "Come Together."
Frontman Steven Tyler wailed into the mic — which was draped in his trademark scarves — while Joe Perry tore through guitar riffs, the rest of the band driving the song with unshakable energy. The night was extra special for Aerosmith, as they also took home their first GRAMMY, winning Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal for "Janie's Got A Gun."
