At the 2001 GRAMMYs, Shakira took home the award for Best Latin Pop Album For Shakira - MTV Unplugged. Recorded in August 1999 during her "MTV Unplugged" performance at the Grand Ballroom in New York City, the special episode was released as a live album the following year. This groundbreaking performance marked the first "MTV Unplugged" episode to be broadcast entirely in Spanish, and it became Shakira's major breakthrough in the U.S. market.
"I promise that if I win one of these next year, I'll mention each of you guys," Shakira says in her acceptance speech. And she did win again: In 2018, Shakira became the first female performer to receive the Best Latin Pop Album GRAMMY Award twice, winning for her album El Dorado.
