The young singer/songwriter Victory Boyd has a fairytale-like discovery story, with a fittingly dreamy, old-school soul lounge voice to match. She went from regularly performing in Central Park with her family to garnering the attention of none other than Jay-Z, who signed her and her siblings to Roc Nation. While her smooth, soulful vocals feel like they could have floated through a velvet-covered lounge in the '70s, the 21-year-old is bringing a modern take to a classic sound, with powerful lyrics as heard in her debut album, Broken Instrument. She's making a name for herself and already living up to it, having toured with other great singers/performers including Rodriquez, Jussie Smollett and Chaka Khan, and performing at 2018's Black Girls Rock Awards.
