The Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations announced on Feb. 16 that Solange has been named its Artist of the Year, as voted for by students and teachers.
The award will be presented at Harvard's March 3 Cultural Rhythms Festival. Tickets go on sale on Feb. 23. The day-long celebration is expected to have 2,000 attendees and celebrates cultural diversity at the university with "student performances and ethno-cultural cuisine from over 30 student organizations."
Previous recipients of the honor have included GRAMMY winners John Legend, Queen Latifah, Shakira, and Will Smith. Elton John received the Foundation's Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award last November.
Solange won a Best R&B Performance GRAMMY at the 59th GRAMMY Awards for her song "Cranes In The Sky" from her 2016 album A Seat At The Table. The album's impact continues to reverberate and a featured installation was devoted to it last year at London's Tate Modern exhibit "Soul Of A Nation."
