On Aug. 17, Madonna will celebrate her 60th birthday and on July 30 she took to Facebook Fundraisers to ask fans and philanthropists to help her celebrate by donating to her Raising Malawi foundation, which she started in 2006. Using Facebook's charitable giving tools through the end of August, the goal is $60,000 and hundreds of people have already donated more than $10,000 in the first few hours it was open.

"For my birthday, I can think of no better gift than connecting my global family with this beautiful country and the children who need our help most," said the seven-time GRAMMY winner. "I want to come together with my friends, fans and supporters to change the lives of Malawian children and let them know they are nurtured, protected and loved."

Facebook's philanthropy tools do not charge processing fees, so all money raised will go toward "meals, schools, uniforms, and healthcare." In addition, international payments platform Ripple promised to match donations, doubling every dollar contributed to the campaign.

As our iconic "Material Girl" helps build tangible institutions where they are so needed, thanks to Facebook Fundraisers and Ripple for making spreading the love easier and more convenient than ever.
