Spring of 1960 marked the final run of shows that saw jazz saxophone icon John Coltrane on the same stage as trumpet trailblazer Miles Davis. Now, thanks to the latest installment of Davis' Bootleg Series, five shows from this tour will be unearthed on March 23, 2018, in a four-disc set, The Final Tour: Bootleg Series Vol. 6.
Taken from the Spring 1960 Jazz At The Philharmonic European Tour, the collection will include shows from Paris' L'Olympia Theatre, Stockholm's Konserthuset and Copnehagen's Tivolis Koncertsal, all recorded in March of that year, according to Rolling Stone.
The material performed is drawn from the then-newly released Kind Of Blue, as well as classic albums cut during the five years Coltrane played with Davis, such as 'Round About Midnight and Milestones. Following the tour, Coltrane went on to a successful solo career of his own, and Davis went on to add other future jazz legends to his band, including pianist Herbie Hancock and saxophonist Wayne Shorter.
The Final Tour …, which was authorized by both the Davis and Coltrane estates, also includes a radio interview with Coltrane and in-depth liner notes. You can now pre-order the collection digitally, on CD or vinyl.
