In the latest episode of the Recording Academy's music and travel series "On Location: L.A." vocalist/guitarist and frontman of 311, Nick Hexum shows us the Santa Monica's outdoorsy side where he talks inspiration and reflects on L.A.'s music scene.
Hexum brings along his dog and takes host Charlie Travers on a walk through a natural parkland in Santa Monica, Calif., where he likes to get creative during his music making process. "For me, it's always been a combination of being outside and creativity. I like to get out to a place where I have no distractions," he shares. Being able to go from the outdoors to city-life is just one thing he loves about the place he calls home.
Hexum, who has lived in L.A. since the early '90s, also talks about L.A.'s music scene and what makes it a special place for music making.
"To me, L.A. is the Mecca. It's the center of great music, but we like to have influence from all over the place and basically it's all here, whether its hip hop or punk or reggae or Latin music, jazz. It's all here."
