The 21st annual Make Music Day will take place in cities around the world on June 21, bringing free interactive events for all ages into public spaces. Today, the North American Make Music Day organization, in partnership with the NAMM Foundation, shared details for some of the exciting chapter cities' events.

Make Music Day first began in France in 1982 with a vision to offer free live music for everyone to enjoy in public spaces. "Unlike a typical music festival, anyone and everyone would be invited to join and play music, or host performances…Three decades later, the holiday has spread throughout the world and is now celebrated in more than 120 countries," the North American organization's website reads.

The website emphasizes the event is for music lovers of all kinds, whether or not they see themselves as musicians, to bring out the music maker in all of us:

"Reimagining their cities and towns as stages, every kind of musician—young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion—pours onto streets, parks, plazas, porches, rooftops, gardens and other public spaces to celebrate, create and share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers."

Rolling Stone reports that 80 cities across North America will be participating with community events, including New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Miami, Nashville, Phoenix, San Jose, Calif. and "the entire state of Vermont."

The wide range of events are all about people collaborating and making music together, as well as sharing it for all to hear. In L.A. and N.Y.C., Street Studios will invite DJs and producers to bring their decks outdoors and play on the sidewalks. "Drum Set Duos" asks local instrument stores to set up two pairs of drum kits outside the shop to allow amateurs and advanced drummers to jam out together.

Make Music Day is currently recruiting musicians for "Bands Uncover," for "bands around the world will take to the streets to cover each other's music, and live stream their shows in a unique musical conversation."
