Since stepping into the world of salsa at 21 years old, the Puerto Rican singer/songwriter has continued to prove herself throughout the decades. In the late '90s and early 2000s, she earned three GRAMMY nominations for Best Tropical Latin Performance, Best Salsa Performance and Best Salsa/Merengue Album. In 2016, she took home a Latin GRAMMY for Best Salsa Album for Intensamente India Con Canciones De Juan Gabriel.
"I'm honored that the young generation is listening to me and they see me as a role model," India says. "That's what Hispanic heritage is about: Spreading that word around about who we are as a people."
Histories: Salsa Music In NYC is presented by the Recording Academy's New York Chapter and the International Salsa Museum as part of Hispanic Heritage Month 2021.
