GRAMMY-nominated artist Khalid recently launched The Great Khalid Foundation, aiming to invest in youth in his hometown of El Paso, Texas and beyond. They have named the first scholarship winners.
Three $10,000 performing arts scholarships were awarded in May to El Paso High School seniors who will pursue a performing arts degree.
The Texas-based foundation launched last month and is a collaboration with the artist's mother, Linda Wolfe, to create "an atmosphere of support and freedom for kids to dream BIG!" a statement said. The foundation, which plans to expand nationally, partners with music education programs in local schools, senior scholarships, community partnerships and holiday gift giveaways.
"I created a foundation that supports music and schools in underserved communities." Khalid said. "It starts in El Paso and my goal is to provide resources and help bridge education and prominent music programs in the city."
Wolfe, who is the org's executive director added: "We are excited that our first initiative as a formal organization is providing educational support for talented students in our community that dream of sharing their gifts with the world. It's an honor to be a part of their journey as artists."
