Many aspiring music creators and fans alike dream of attending the GRAMMY Awards, but thanks to Make-A-Wish, this dream will be a reality for four young music enthusiasts this Sunday. Justice, Austin, Sophie and Keegan will walk the GRAMMY red carpet, where they'll have a chance to meet some of their biggest musical heroes, and attend the 62nd GRAMMY Awards on Jan. 26 in Los Angeles. Let's learn a little more about this year's remarkable attendees.
Justice, a 14-year-old from London, Ontario, says he enjoys spending time with his family, including his mother father and two younger sisters, and his two dogs, playing PS4 and virtual reality games in his spare time as well as participating in Pow Wow Dance Competitions. Justice a cancer patient with the wish of attending the GRAMMY Awards.
Park City, Utah 19-year-old Austin is a VATER Syndrome patient and told us he's fulfilling his GRAMMY wish on Sunday because, "There are so many specific moments where music has helped me get through hard times." Austin loves pop music, and says this is very powerful for him. But his musical interests aren't just as a listener, he loves to sing, too! He and his family enjoy going boating and four wheeling together.
Sophie is a 13-year-old music lover from Old Greenwich, Conn., who says the GRAMMYs are, "An awesome opportunity to see my favorite artists." She likes to spend time with her family and bake. She also enjoys swimming and basketball, plus she has a golden retreiver named Rusty. Sophie has lukeimia, and she has always wanted to attend the GRAMMY Awards.
An 18-year-old music enthusiast from Prince George, British Columbia, Keegan told us why attending the GRAMMYs is his one true wish, saying, "Although I don’t play an instrument, music has always been a passion of mine. I enjoy learning about the history, and how far music has come, and evolved over the century."
Keegan also talked about how music helps him cope with the struggles of dealing with a critical illness, adding, "Music provides me with an escape from the world, and transports me to a world that no movie, or TV show ever could. I chose this wish because the GRAMMYs is Music’s Biggest Night, essentially the concert/show of a lifetime all dedicated to music, and it would be fantastic to witness it live.”
This year's Make-A-Wish kids remind us of the power of music.
