Following a charming show-opening set from Janelle Monáe, 15-time GRAMMY winner Eminem performed his diamond-selling song "Lose Yourself" at the 2020 Oscars.
After an extensive video compilation, introduced by Lin-Manuel Miranda, celebrating the impact of music in film, Eminem took to the stage to deliver a powerful surprise performance of his iconic track.
Released in 2002, "Lose Yourself" is a hit single featured on the soundtrack to 8 Mile, the hip-hop drama starring Eminem and inspired by the rapper's experiences in the underground rap battle scene.

In 2003, the song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, making it the first-ever hip-hop track to receive the award. Last night's performance comes 17 years after the song accomplished the historic feat, a hilarious realization Eminem joked about on social media.
"Lose Yourself" also won two GRAMMYs, Best Male Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Song, at the 46th GRAMMY Awards, held in 2004; it was also nominated for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Song Written For A Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media that year.
Eminem last received a GRAMMY nomination for his 2018 track, "Lucky You," at the 61st GRAMMY Awards, held in 2019.
