Detroit rapper Eminem was awarded $415,000 in damages on Oct. 25 from a lawsuit involving copyright infringement by New Zealand's National Party. Today, a representative from Em's team says the GRAMMY winner will donate any proceeds he receives to hurricane relief.
The lawsuit, filed by Eminem's publishing company Eight Mile Style, claimed the National Party used a song in their 2014 ad campaign that was ruled to be "sufficiently similar" to "Lose Yourself." According to Variety, the same rep noted that contrary to multiple news reports, Eminem was not the one who initiated the suit.
"Eminem was not a party to this lawsuit nor was he consulted regarding the case," the rep said. "Any monetary settlement he receives from it will be donated to hurricane relief. He encourages the plaintiffs, 8 Mile Style, to do the same."
