The 4-piece string band from Regina Saskatchewan recorded the new album in Muscle Shoals, Ala., and it was produced by GRAMMY winner Jimmy Nutt, best known for his work with the Steeldrivers. On Sugar & Joy, The Dead South continue to push the boundaries of the genre with an intoxicating mix of traditional pedigree and irreverant stomp. And according to Nutt, it is a team effort.
"They have an obvious dedication to what they are doing," says Nutt. "They really encourage each other, which you don't see a lot."
The Dead South will perform at Glastonbury this weekend and are gearing up for a show at Red Rocks in July. Next year, they will become the first bluegrass band to ever headline Brixton Academy. They've also just announced dates for their Served Cold tour, with tickets going on sale tomorrow, June 26.
