Chicago-born house vocalist Kim English has died, her longtime label Nervous Records has confirmed. She was 48. No cause of death is known at this time.

Writing in a Facebook post, Nervous Records called English's death "a tragic loss for Kim's family, friends, church community and lovers of music all over the world. Such a distinctive, unique talent. We worked on projects together over the course of 25 years, and the collaboration between Kim and Nervous produced singles that are widely recognized classics in multiple genres of dance music."

English started her career as a gospel singer but eventually worked her way into the club scene, releasing three albums with the New York-based Nervous Records: Higher Things (1998), Re-Energized (2000), and My Destiny (2006).

Over the course of her career, she worked with major house acts like Masters At Work, François K and Mood II Swing, with whom she released "Learn 2 Luv" in 1997.

Her debut single, "Nightlife," originally dropped in 1994 and was produced by Ten City and remixed by Masters At Work, Bump and, most notably, Armand Van Helden.
