Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rosselló received a big surprise recently when Bad Bunny and Residente made an unexpected appearance at his residence in Old San Juan to discuss crime and the country's education system.
The topics at hand couldn't be more timely. Just this week, Puerto Rican trap artist Kevin Fret was shot and killed. The 24-year-old openly gay rapper had become a role model for other young LGBTQ+ individuals during his all-too-short career.
Roselló was apparently asleep when Bad Bunny and Residente showed up, but they waited as long as they had to in order to speak with the Governor. Eventually, they got their chance.
Governor Roselló tweeted: “Crime is everyone's business. I appreciate @Residente and @sanbenito took time to talk about what we are already doing and expand the initiatives to address security.”
Bad Bunny is up for his first GRAMMY nomination this year for his work with Cardi B and on "I Like It." Residente, a member of Calle 13, took home his first career GRAMMY last year for his self-titled album, which won Best Latin Rock, Urban Or Alternative Album. The two stars hope to use their platform to enact real change in Puerto Rico, and from Governor Roselló's initial response, it seems like they are off to a good start.
