Membership Types
Voting Membership
Voting Membership is for performers, songwriters, producers, engineers, instrumentalists, and other creators actively working in the recording industry. Voting Members play a key role in selecting Grammy winners each year.
Requirements:
- Two strong recommendations from music industry peers
- Proof of a primary career focus in music, which may include:
- Active marketing and promotions
- Awards and honors
- Established online presence, including relevant touring dates, fan interactions, music videos, streaming stats, current releases, etc.
- Press coverage such as interviews, reviews, and highlights by relevant outlets
- Professional support system (e.g., manager, booking agent, publicist)
- Verified list of industry collaborators
- Twelve commercially distributed, verifiable credits in a single creative profession, with at least five of those credits earned within the last five years
- All tracks must be commercially available in the U.S. through recognized online music retailers/streaming services or physical retail stores.
Special Circumstances:
If you've been nominated for a Grammy Award in the past five years, the credit requirement is waived. If you're a current year's Grammy nominee or winner, no recommendations are required.
Candidates who don't meet the standard criteria can still be considered for membership if their body of work has achieved unique distinction or special merit.
Professional Membership
Professional Membership is for music business professionals whose full-time work directly supports music creators. This includes music executives (e.g., labels, distributors, publishers, promoters, performing rights organizations), creator representatives (e.g., agents, managers, lawyers, publicists), industry writers (e.g., authors, journalists), and music educators (e.g., college/university and music/trade school educators).
Requirements:
- Two strong recommendations from music industry peers
- Career substantiation through independently verifiable documentation that demonstrates an active, primary career in direct support of music creators, such as:
- Listing on a company website
- Artist roster list
- Published biography or résumé
- Professional awards or honors
- Press coverage referencing your profession
- Band/artist (client) website
- Other verifiable documentation supporting your role in directly supporting music creators
