- Born Courtney Melba Barnett on Nov. 3, 1987, in Sydney, Australia
- Released in 2013, "Avant Gardener," from Courtney Barnett's The Double EP: A Sea Of Split Peas, brought her widespread attention from the music press. Her debut album, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit, was named one of the best of 2015 by Rolling Stone, Pitchfork and The Guardian.
- Barnett received her first career GRAMMY nomination for Best New Artist in 2015.
- Did you know? Early in her career, Barnett played open mics while doing odd jobs to support herself. These included delivering pizzas and handing out surveys on trains.
- The GRAMMY Museum hosted Barnett in 2015 for a discussion about her career, as well as a performance of music from her album Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit.
- Barnett reissued her debut album on pink vinyl in 2016 to raise money for Ten Bands One Cause, an annual fundraiser for Gilda's Club NYC. The charity offers free support groups, lectures and workshops to cancer patients and their families.
