YouTube is now making personalized playlists for its users in its first step toward creating a more intimate musical experience, the video-sharing platformed has announced.

YouTube Music will roll out three new mixes for listeners to explore: Discover Mix, New Release Mix and "Your Mix," which will use listeners' histories to determine who to feature.

The playlists will be updated regularly. "The more you listen to and like songs, the better your mixes will be," YouTube said in a statement.

YouTube has become a major way people consume music. In a study by Edison Research and Triton Digital, the research found that more than half of the U.S. population listens to music on the platform. They noted that among 12-34 year-olds, 70 percent of them use the platform to listen to music.

YouTube joins music streaming giants Spotify, Pandora and Apple Music in curating music content tailored to their user's tastes.
