Rumors had been swirling about a possible 2018 Florence + The Machine album for a while now. But the wait for new music is over. On April 12 the GRAMMY-nominated band released their first single since 2016, "Sky Full Of Song."

The ballad, which is accompanied by a music video directed by AG Rojas, features frontwoman Florence Welch's signature vocals. She begins the track a cappella before sparse, punctuated strings layer in, followed by background vocals and piano. The result is a clean, clear track that conveys the kind of emotional complexity Welch seems to have been going for.
"This was a song that just fell out of the sky fully formed," Welch said in a statement. "Sometimes when you are performing you get so high, it's hard to know how to come down. There is this feeling of being cracked open, rushing endlessly outwards and upwards, and wanting somebody to hold you still, bring you back to yourself. It's an incredible, celestial, but somehow lonely feeling."

"Sky Full Of Song" will be on the A-side, with the track "New York Poem (For Polly)" from Welch's upcoming book, Useless Magic, on the B-side.
