R&B/soul recording artist Miguel was recently the featured guest for the GRAMMY Museum's Homegrown series, a new series spotlighting Los Angeles-based artists. Before an intimate audience of 200, Miguel discussed topics such as musical influences, his creative process and growing up in the Los Angeles area. Following the discussion, Miguel performed songs from his debut album, All I Want Is You, including the title track, "Pay Me" and "Quickie."

"The more obscure artists resonate with me on the more artistic side," said Miguel. "There's an expected creativity when [I] think about indie music. I associate creativity with independent music."

With influences including Prince, Queen, Lenny Kravitz, and Kanye West, Miguel's voice has been described by Billboard magazine as reflecting "the sweetness of Babyface and the passion of R. Kelly." The Los Angeles native signed a recording contract with Jive Records in 2007. Released in 2010, Miguel's debut album, All I Want Is You, blends R&B, soul and hip-hop elements while showcasing his vocal versatility and songwriting talents. The album peaked at No. 37 on the Billboard 200 and "Sure Thing" reached No. 36 on the Billboard Hot 100. Miguel has co-written songs for other artists including Asher Roth, Mary J. Blige and Musiq, and Usher. In 2010 he received his first career GRAMMY nomination for Best R&B Song for his co-writing credit on Jaheim's "Finding My Way Back."

Upcoming GRAMMY Museum events include An Evening With Edgar Winter (Oct. 12), An Evening With Thomas Dolby (Oct. 17), Great Guitars: Steve Lukather (Oct. 24), and An Evening With America (Nov. 4).
