Decemberists' Colin Meloy Thought Music Would Help His Writing

GRAMMY nominated singer, songwriter and author Meloy shares the history of his creativity while Martine explains the productions which brought Meloy's albums to life.

At Pacific Northwest Chapter's Studio Summit 2015 Glenn Lorbecki interviewed singer/songwriter Colin Meloy of the Decemberists with his producer/engineer Tucker Martine at Martine's Flora studio. Meloy was unsure about his creative writing ambitions and had been told to go into the world to gain life experience before pursuing a Master's degree, so he decided to keep writing as Plan B while he went to Portland to do music for his new Plan A … and succeeded. In addition to fronting additional bands and composing a rock opera, Meloy's fiction goals were also met as his Wildwood Chronicles young adult series took hold in the market, illustrated by his wife.
