In 2017 Christian hip-hop artist and producer Derek Minor joined DJ Moonbaby for this episode of the Recording Academy's interview series Buzzin', filmed at Baldwin Hills Crenshaw. Minor has worked with groups including R.M.G. and under the stage name Pro, notably giving an assist to Lecrae on the 55th GRAMMY Awards Best Gospel Album winner Gravity. He speaks about how Tupac Shakur's music changed his life, because "He didn't settle and he held us up to a higher standard." His 2016 album Reflection reached No. 5 on the Billboard Top Rap Albums Chart; 2013's Minorville album and 2015's Empire both made it to No. 6. He also explained that during a recent trip to Haiti, confronted by the presence of mass poverty the reason he felt "broken" by the experience was because "I thought of all the times I've complained." Meanwhile the Haitian love of life affirms our humanity and inspired Minor. "The way we change the world is to really just honor one another," he said.
