"I stand firm behind the belief that, for me, songwriting isn't something that I do or command, it happens to me." — Brandi Carlile

Born June 1, 1981, in Ravensdale, Wash., Brandi Carlile met Phil and Tim Hanseroth while playing Seattle clubs and released her major-label, self-titled debut with the twins in 2005 to critical acclaim. Her sophomore follow-up The Story broke onto the Billboard 200 in 2007. On album number six, 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter, Carlile received her first GRAMMY nomination, for Best Americana Album.
