A critical part of the early years ofbranding movies with signature rock tunes, singer/songwriter Loggins feels fortunate to have ridden the crest of that wave.

Kenny Loggins: Soundtracks Saved Him From Disco
On Jan. 21, 2015, at the historic Mack Sennett Studios in Los Angeles, the Guild of Music Supervisors held their 5th annual awards presentation and Guild Secretary Jonathan McHugh interviewed Kenny Loggins. His soft-rock strengths associated hit songs with the early 80's films Caddyshack, Footloose, and Top Gun. "They became iconic pieces because they were the right pieces at the right time," said Loggins, explaining how this was just the beginning of the music supervisors' role. "MTV was a brand new idea," he elaborated, so studios found a synergy by putting a rock song over their movie trailer and sending it to the upstart cable channel. The men also discussed how Loggins has been opening for himself, touring with his band Blue Sky Riders. Loggins credits his musical survival with the advent of soundtrack work, because radio was being taken over by disco and that generally wasn't a good match with 1970s rock.
