Fateful Moments Led Zedd To His GRAMMY Win For "Clarity"

The road to Zedd and Foxes' GRAMMY win for "Clarity" took two sudden jumps.

At the 56th GRAMMY Awards for 2013, Zedd Featuring Foxes won the Best Dance Recording GRAMMY for "Clarity" in a year when it seemed Daft Punk was winning everything. While at Lollapalooza 2014, Zedd shared the story with the Chicago Chapter of the two jumps (more like quantum leaps) that happened in the path to his win. Although he had been a performing musician since childhood, Zedd's surge to wider attention came when he reached out to Skrillex and they started collaborating. Then with a few days to go before deadline, and needing to decide whether to junk or keep an unsatisfactory version of "Clarity," Zedd's manager played him Foxes for the first time. "That's exactly the kind of voice I want for 'Clarity,'" was Zedd's immediate reaction. After last-minute, trans-continental recording, they wrapped it and handed it in on time. Zedd says, "It happened to be a song that changed my life."
