Shakira, Shakira!

Though she's been recording in her native Spanish since the early '90s, today Shakira is one of the most recognizable Latin crossover success stories of the modern music era. And she's got the trophies to prove it: The Colombian pop powerhouse has 13 Latin GRAMMYs and three GRAMMYs to her name.

Shakira Wins At The First Latin GRAMMY Awards

In the year 2000, at the first-ever Latin GRAMMY Awards, she pulled in a golden gramophone for her late '90s single "Ojos AsÍ" ("Eyes Like That"). Walking onto the stage to accept her award, Shakira dedicated her win to her home country. "I want to dedicate this award to that country that is going through a difficult time right now but never never forget how to smile. For you, Columbia," she said.

Watch the Super Bowl 2020 Halftime Show performer accept one of her first Latin GRAMMYs above in this special edition of GRAMMY Rewind, and catch the 20th Annual Latin GRAMMYs live from Las Vegas on Univision on Nov. 14.

"Everything I do…is dedicated to my country, Colombia. That in spite of our tough reality, we keep our spirit joyful and alive," Shakira said in her acceptance speech.

The live album was also nominated for Album Of The Year at the 1st Latin GRAMMY Awards in 2000, where she won her first two Latin GRAMMYs (for "Octavo Día" and "Ojos Así"). She received her first GRAMMY nomination at the 41st GRAMMY Awards, for her fourth album, Dónde Están los Ladrones?

After the powerful moment, the elder Fernández was honored with the Latin Recording Academy's President's Award.

Today, Oct. 13, 20 days until the 2020 Presidential Election, Sony Music launched the "Your Voice, Your Power, Your Vote" bipartisan voting initiative to encourage civic participation. Until Nov. 3, the campaign will roll out a series of short films and PSAs in English and Spanish featuring artists from their star-studded roster.

"A vote is a voice. A voice is power. A voice not spoken cannot be heard," the artists say collectively in the clip, featuring P!NK, Shakira, DJ Khaled, Pharrell Williams, Vic Mensa, Chole X Halle, Meghan Trainor, Jennifer Hudson, Camila Cabello, G-Eazy, will.i.am and others.

Mensa also shared his motivation for voting in a new Pitchfork feature that also included words from David Byrne of Talking Heads, Billie Eilish, Margo Price, Chuck D of Public Enemy and 28 other artists.

"[Activist/scholar] Angela Davis stated that this election is less about putting a candidate in the White House who shares our ideals or can be trusted to lead us in the right direction, because that individual doesn't exist. Our motive here must be to elect the ticket with which we have the most potential to pressure an anti-racist agenda into legislation," Mensa wrote.

On Feb. 23, 2000, stars filled Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles to close out the last century with a celebration of the best in music from its final year. The 42nd GRAMMY Awards was filled with big moments, including Santana sweeping the night with eight golden gramophones for Supernatural and then-emerging pop princess Christina Aguilera winning Best New Artist.

Yet one of the most talked about moments from the evening was Jennifer Lopez's now-iconic plunging green Versace dress. To celebrate the legendary J.Lo on her 51st birthday today (July 24), for the latest GRAMMY Rewind, we revisit this day she took our breath away, as she presented the first GRAMMY of the night with actor David Duchovny.

Another GRAMMY Rewind: Watch Jennifer Lopez Crown Marc Anthony 2016 Latin GRAMMY Person Of The Year

On duty to present the award for Best R&B Album (which went to TLC for FanMail), the pair entered the stage to raucous cheers applause. "The X-Files" star noted it was the first time in five or six years he was sure no one was looking at him. He added that he'd always wanted to meet the Six Million Dollar Woman.

"Well, I'm not bionic. I'm real," the singer/dancer/actor joked.

Then it must be something in the water, because the "I'm Real" singer revisited an updated version of dress on the Versace runway last fall, turning heads and breaking the internet yet again. This prompted Google to confirm that the creation of Google Images was directly birthed from countless people searching for images of J.Lo in her much-buzzed about 2000 GRAMMYs fashion win.

In a video shared to her YouTube channel on April 2019, she shared how the memorable fashion choice came together the day of the show because she was busy filming "The Wedding Planner." Her stylist was limited to a few options because of the timing and advised against wearing the Versace number because several people, including Donatella Versace herself, had already worn it, but Lopez knew it was "the one."

Also at the 2000 GRAMMYs, Lopez received her first nomination—Best Dance Recording for "Let's Get Loud," from her stellar 1999 debut album, On The 6.

Happy birthday, eternal icon J.Lo!
