UN Event: "Despacito" Co-Writer On Music's Power
On Sept. 17 New York City hosted the 2017 Social Good Summit tied in with the United Nations General Assembly. One of the featured sessions was an interview with Erika Ender, one of the songwriters behind the huge summer hit "Despacito."
A force for philanthropy in Panama through her Fundacion Puertas Abiertas (Open Doors Foundation), Ender performed two songs that address the needs of abandoned kids and the power of diversity when people come together. She also discussed how she reaches out through her songwriting "to use music as a vehicle to do good."
"I know I'm writing the soundtrack of someone else's life," she said. "I know how powerful music is, and how it can heal people, and how it can make people get together and unite."
