The GRAMMY categories for Best Dance Recording and Best Electronic/Dance Album were packed with great talent and memorable recordings this year. From Robyn and BT to Groove Armada and Goldfrapp, it is safe to say that The Recording Academy's voting members selected the most noteworthy contenders in the Dance Field this year.
Rihanna grabbed the GRAMMY in the Best Dance Recording category for "Only Girl (In The World)," a massive club banger that introduced a brand-new sound for the talented singer. Rihanna beat out Goldfrapp, Lady Gaga, La Roux, and Robyn in this hotly contested category.
The song's co-writers and co-producers Stargate (Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Eriksen), and co-producer/mixer Sandy Vee were in attendance during the Pre-Telecast Ceremony to accept the award. The award marks the second win for Stargate. In 2009 the Norwegian production team received the GRAMMY for Best R&B Song for their work on Ne-Yo's "Miss Independent." The duo recently topped the Billboard Hot 100 with two additional songs they co-wrote: Katy Perry's "Firework" and Rihanna's "What's My Name?" her collaboration with Best New Artist nominee Drake.
La Roux took Best Electronic/Dance Album honors for In For The Kill, besting BT, the Chemical Brothers, Goldfrapp, and Groove Armada.
In For The Kill is the debut album by the British duo consisting of Elly Jackson and Ben Langmaid. The win is a major achievement for La Roux, and caps a very successful year in which they received both critical acclaim and chart success. In fact, their edgy Euro-styled synth pop has helped pave the way for other new European pop acts who are bringing their unique brands of synth pop and electronic music to a whole new group of fans.
Jackson and Langmaid were in the audience at the Pre-Telecast Ceremony to receive the award. They thanked their record label and management in their acceptance speech while also complimenting the ribald humor of comedian Kathy Griffin, who presented the award. La Roux is currently working on their second album.
