Recording Academy To Host Diversity & Inclusion Task Force Listening Forums
Earlier this year, the Recording Academy formed a Diversity & Inclusion Task Force to examine barriers and biases affecting women and other underrepresented voices in the music industry. In pursuit of this mission, Chair of the newly formed task force Tina Tchen will host a series of Listening Forums in the coming months in four cities including Los Angeles, Nashville, New York, and Chicago.
Each Listening Forum will provide an opportunity for Recording Academy members to share their experiences as creative professionals in the music industry. The task force’s goal in hosting these Listening Forums is to learn from our members’ experiences directly.
The Diversity & Inclusion Task Force, assembled by Tchen, is made up of 18 members who will volunteer their time and expertise. The task force members include music creators, executives, academic scholars, and thought leaders in gender equality and diversity, and none are employed by the Recording Academy or hold any positions on its Board.
Tchen has already spent several months meeting with and listening to constituents across the music community in order to assemble the task force and inform its initial courses of action. The Listening Forums will mark the next significant motion toward the task force's goal of facilitating increased diversity and inclusion.
"I'm honored to lead such an esteemed group of visionaries who possess the experience and passion needed to drive real change in building a more inclusive and equitable music community," said Tchen. "This is an important first step made possible by the Recording Academy's leadership, which recognizes the benefit of examining these issues with fresh eyes."
The Listening Forums begin in Los Angeles and stop in Nashville and New York before concluding in Chicago.
