Rachel Assil To Host Release Party At The Roxy Theatre
Indie singer/songwriter Rachel Assil recently visited The Recording Academy's headquarters to participate in an exclusive GRAMMY.com interview in advance of her official release party for The Opus Unplugged at the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles on Aug. 30. Assil discussed her new album, musical influences and the performance lineup for the release party. In addition to Assil, artists Timothy Bloom, Irene Diaz, Dezi Paige, DJ Warrior, and Tha Boogie also discussed being part of the release party performance lineup, among other topics.
"The show at the Roxy is my album release for my debut album The Opus Unplugged," said Assil. "I wanted to make it a really special album release so I invited all of my friends [to perform]."
"I just love being onstage and being able to express the craft that I do," added Bloom.
Assil developed an ear for music at a young age, singing at 2, playing piano at 4 and writing songs by 8. Her diverse influences range from Freddie Mercury and Sade to Whitney Houston and Sarah McLachlan. The Opus Unplugged features 14 tracks spanning subjects such as life, love, heartbreak, and death. Assil has previously opened dates for GRAMMY winner Anthony Hamilton. She was also a performer at the first-ever ASCAP Women Behind the Music series in 2009.
In addition to Assil, performers at The Opus Unplugged release party will include producer/songwriter Bloom (Chris Brown, Ne-Yo), who released The Budding Rose EP in 2011; singer/songwriter Diaz, who is currently working on her debut EP; indie pop artist Paige, who recently released an EP titled Tall Tales; producer/songwriter DJ Warrior; pop/alternative duo Tha Boogie, consisting of Jarryd James and Tuko Proby, who this year released an album tilted Good Luck Charlie Vettuno; and former Pussycat Dolls member Melody Thornton, who recently released a 10-track mixtape titled P.O.Y.B.L.
