Prince Guitar Brings In Record Amount At Auction
If you see a customized axe previously owned by Prince, you'd know it immediately by its unique shape and stunning color. One lucky bidder participating in the Icons and Idols: Rock N Roll 2017 auction with Julien's Auctions now gets to owe a piece of Prince's guitar legacy.
A blue teal Schechter "Cloud" guitar that belonged to the Purple One sold for a record $700,000 at auction recently, reportedly the highest amount ever brought in for one of Prince's instruments. Initially the auction house expected the guitar to bring in $60,000–$80,000.
Prince's guitar wasn't the only item up for sale. One of Michael Jackson's black-and-white rhinestone gloves fetched $102,000 and a red snakeskin jacket like the one he wore in his "Beat It" video brought in $118,000.
Also fetching top dollar, a Moonman MTV Video Music Award won by Kurt Cobain earned $62,000. A Jimi Hendrix Nehru shirt sold for $106,000 and handwritten David Bowie "Starman" lyrics earned $81,000.
All in all, good prices for one-of a-kind- memorabilia from some of the greatest artists of all time.
