First-of-its-kind gospel festival to debut over Memorial Day weekend in 2018 and feature two stages of performers

He's a 12-time GRAMMY winner with a deep-rooted passion for gospel music. So who better than to host and headline the first Exodus Music & Arts Festival than Kirk Franklin?

Kirk Franklin Praises Shirley Caesar

Taking place at Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory in Dallas over Memorial Day 2018 weekend, this new festival promises to be a spiritual-based music fan's dream. The fest will feature gospel choirs and two stages with a stacked lineup of performances by not only Franklin but the likes of fellow GRAMMY winners Marvin Sapp, Tamela Mann, and Tye Tribbett, with more to be announced.

"I don't believe anyone loves gospel music more than I do on this planet," said Franklin, who was among the artists taking part in the recent "GRAMMY Salute To Music Legends" PBS special. "The level of talent, skill set and spirit makes it a genre that others have taken their cues from since a young Mahalia Jackson entered the scene decades ago. But the genre has never owned a spot in the pantheon of music festivals that have global behemoths like Coachella or Essence until now!

"It will deliver a weekend of performances, collaborations, humor, and hope that will only be curated at Exodus. Memorial Day weekend you will discover. The wait was well worth it!”

Tickets for the inaugural Exodus Music & Arts Festival are on sale now.

Released March 16, Snoop Dogg Presents Bible Of Love lets us see Snoop Dogg in another new musical persona, one some might compare to his tour of reggae as Snoop Lion on his 2012 album Reincarnated. While gospel might seem far afield from gangsta rap and reggae, as the hook goes in lead single "Words Are Few," featuring B-Slade: "Church all my life."

With 32 tracks and a host of guest artists, Snoop even steps back and gives his guests the spotlight for many songs. His guests include GRAMMY winners Faith Evans, Fred Hammond, Mary Mary,  and Tye Tribbett. Also featured on the album are past GRAMMY nominees Kim Burrell, Mali Music, Marvin Sapp, and Charlie Wilson.

The March 31 Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart saw this fresh chance to give thanks come in at No. 1, with three tracks – "Blessing Me Again," feat. Rance Allen, "Saved," feat. Faith Evans and 3rd Generation, and "You," feat. Tye Tribbett – currently trending upwards on the Hot Gospel Songs chart.

To commemorate Chicago's 35th annual city-wide celebration of the blues, the Chicago Blues Festival is bringing in some of the best artists of the genre, including the recently announced headliner, GRAMMY winner Mavis Staples.

In addition to Staples, headlining performances include a tribute to Delmark Records' 65th anniversary with Jimmy Burns, Ken Saydak, Demetria Taylor, Steve and Lurrie Bell, Jimmy Johnson, and Omar Coleman, among others, and a tribute to blues harpist Little Walter. Kenny Neal, Fantastic Negrito, Mississippi Heat, the Corey Dennison Band, and Selwyn Birchwood, among others, are also on tap to perform.

The festival will be held June 8–10 in Chicago's Millennium Park. The three-day event is free and open to the public.

On Nov. 15 Ultra Music Festival announced their flagship festival will officially move to a new, larger location in Miami, Virginia Key, following approval from the City of Miami. The 21st edition of the huge electronic dance music event will take place on March 29-31, 2019, following Winter Music Conference and to close out Miami Music Week.

ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES RELOCATION TO VIRGINIA KEY AS NEW HOME

Virginia Key is an 863-acre freeway-accessible island in Miami home to the Historic Virginia Key Beach Park and Miami Marine Stadium Flex Park, the festival's new event space. Ultra explains the new ocean-side location is significantly larger than their former venue at Bayfront Park, located in downtown Miami. The new, bigger space has allowed Ultra to increase their attendee capacity and offer more tickets than in prior years, as well as extending the event end time until 2:00 a.m. each day.

"We are excited to announce that the City of Miami has agreed to a deal to relocate Ultra Music Festival to the beautiful and historic Virginia Key," Ultra said in a statement. "The new venue will allow the festival to evolve into its new, larger home, ultimately creating a more enjoyable experience for all festival attendees. We look forward to a long-term and mutually beneficial relationship with our partners at the City of Miami and Historic Virginia Key Beach Park as we commemorate keeping Ultra in the City of Miami."

Ultra also acknowledged the "cultural and historic significance" of Virginia Key Beach, which was a safe gathering place for Miami's black population during the dark times of segregation, and has committed to honor the location's history and take care of its natural environment. The partnership with Ultra and the city will allow around $20 million to be set aside for the county's first African American Museum.

Emilio Gonzalez, Miami City Manager, said the agreement "keeps this world-renowned event in our global city, while providing operating funds for a long-desired African American History Museum at Historic Virginia Key Beach."

Ultra Music Festival began in 1999 in Miami when now-President/CEO Russell Faibisch threw the first event with the late Alex Omes. It began as a celebratory event in March the weekend following Winter Music Conference, as many world-renowned DJs and producers from around the world were already in town for the conference. As both events grew and the festival gained more and more loyal fans and performers, Ultra grew to offer spin-off festivals worldwide, under the Ultra Worldwide brand.

The company announced last year that they had purchased the conference, streamlining all events as part of Miami Music Week. The revamped conference, traditionally geared towards those working in electronic music, will now include two segments: an educational segment for music consumers to learn about the industry in addition to one aimed at industry professionals.

More info and tickets for Ultra Music Festival are available on their website.
