Jim James, Tom Morello Join Bob Marley's Sons For 'Exodus' Tribute
Classic reggae fans are in for a special treat this November. Bob Marley's sons Ziggy and Stephen Marley have planned an amazing one-night-only concert event to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their father's landmark ninth studio album, 1977's Exodus.
The Exodus 40 Live concert event comes on the heels of the retrospective "restatement" reissue series that the Marley Family compiled for the 40th anniversary of the original album's release date back on June 3. Ziggy Marley's "restatement" version, titled Exodus 40: The Movement Continues, saw him revisit many of the master recordings of his father's original studio sessions with the original Wailers, from which he selected alternate takes, unused or previously unheard vocals, lyric phrasings, and newfound ad-libs.
Following strong critical acclaim for Ziggy Marley's Movement … version, he and his brother contracted music director Don Was to help build a large-scale performance of the reinvigorated material, with the intention of bringing in an all-star cast of other musicians and performers to create a unique tribute to their father's memory.
"After listening to Ziggy's restatement of Exodus 40: The Movement Continues, the album struck me as something so powerful and rarely seen live in its entirety," said GRAMMY winner Was regarding his involvement in the production.
Exodus 40 Live will take place on Nov. 1 at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles. Tickets will go on sale via Ticketmaster on Sept. 29.
