Jack White Unveils First Teases Of New Album, 'Boarding House Reach'
GRAMMY winner and 2017 Recording Academy Producers & Engineers Wing honoree Jack White has finally resurfaced with details on his long-awaited third studio album, titled Boarding House Reach.
By way of announcing the new album's title, White dropped a four-minute sonic mashup video titled "SERVINGS and PORTIONS from my BOARDING HOUSE REACH," ostensibly containing choice clippings and fragments from the forthcoming record.
The video itself is a wild ride, but what's even more interesting is the breadth and depth of sonic palette that it displays — a tall statement when one considers such a musically diverse source as White.
Even while switching effortlessly from moments of classic fuzz rock to balladic crooning, to an Akai MPC1000 tapping out crushed drum samples, to aggressively shaped bursts of static and harsh noise — at times reminiscent of the types of schizophrenic psychedelic stylings preferred by MadLib or Flying Lotus — the elements of the project still all come off as strangely consistent, a testament to White's inimitable production aesthetic.
Hinting that this album would be a departure of sorts, even for him, White commented back in November, "It's a bizarre one. I've just got to let it settle. I need to listen to it by myself. I haven't been able to listen to it by myself for a while."
Details on an official release date for Boarding House Reach are still forthcoming.
