GRAMMY Live Garners Webby Nod
GRAMMY Live, The Recording Academy's three-day online broadcast of the VIP events leading up to the 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards, has been nominated for the second consecutive year in the Events & Live Webcasts category for the 15th Annual Webby Awards.
Established in 1996 by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, the Webby Awards honor excellence on the Internet and include two honors in every category: the Webby Award and the People's Voice Award. This year's nomination follows GRAMMY Live's Webby Award win for Events & Live Webcasts in 2010.
Streamed on both GRAMMY.com and YouTube, GRAMMY Live featured behind-the-scenes coverage of the events leading up to the 53rd GRAMMY Awards, as well as official news reports and personalized updates from GRAMMY Live hosts actor/comedian Ben Gleib, TV/Web personality Shira Lazar and veteran broadcast music journalist John Norris. The audience was given an insider's view into GRAMMY Week events, including the Social Media Rock Stars Summit featuring Chamillionaire and Adam Lambert; MusiCares Person of the Year tribute honoring Barbra Streisand; Special Merit Awards Ceremony & Nominees Reception; Pre-GRAMMY Gala; and all the excitement on GRAMMY Sunday, including the red-carpet arrivals, Pre-Telecast Ceremony and official GRAMMY Celebration after-party. Additional exclusive content, including backstage interviews with GRAMMY winners and GRAMMY photo gallery sessions with renowned photographer Danny Clinch, provided viewers a "dual-screen" experience, complementing the GRAMMY telecast on CBS.
Winners for the 15th Annual Webby Awards will be announced on May 3 and honored at a ceremony in New York on June 13. Voting for the People's Voice Award is open to the public through April 28.
In related news, The Recording Academy and its affiliated charity the MusiCares Foundation both received 2011 Maggie Awards nominations from the Western Publishing Association. The program book for the 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards was chosen as a finalist in the Annuals & Custom Publications/Trade & Consumer category, while MusiCares' 20th Anniversary Campaign promotional booklet earned a nod for Best Overall Publication Design/Trade. The Maggie Awards, which recognize excellence in the physical, digital and online publishing fields, will be presented in Los Angeles on April 29.
